So I came across this amazing Tumblr, F Yeah Custom Vans, and got really inspired to own a pair of super cool custom Vans. Sadly these Vans are hard to find, and once you find them... well, they are really expensive (for Vans). So being a DIY-er, I decided I can make my own! I wasn't entirely sure on the process or my ability to pull it off, so I did my first 'test run' on an old pair of TOMS I had laying around - just in case it didn't work out.
Well it's worked out for me so far, after a few trial and errors of course! Here's what I did to my old TOMS. What do you think? Yes, I know... I'm a nerd. P.S. I haven't finished the left one yet.
Here is how I created my own DIY shoes, and how you can too.
WHAT YOU NEED:
Shoes, obviously. These are my favorite Vans but you can pick whichever one you prefer. The color doesn't matter, although if you are not good with a paint brush you can use a Sharpie on a white shoe.
Water based acrylic paint and fine point brushes. I prefer Liquitex Basics paint the most, and they can be found at any art supply store.
The last things you will need are Sharpies and Scotchgard. I used Sharpies for the blue and some detail you can't get with a brush, but if you are using a white shoe you can ditch the paint and use all Sharpie if you wish. The Scotchgard is probably the most important step. This seals the paint and Sharpie so that it doesn't wash or run. Scotchgard is sold almost everywhere.
You will also need a pencil to outline and a picture or idea of what you want to create on your shoe.
Step 1. Outline your drawing on the shoe with a pencil so that you can erase/wash off any mistakes in placement or scale.
Step 2. Start paining in the base color(s), and let dry. You don't want the paint to thick or it won't look as good, but be sure to cover it enough to get your desired color. Then let the base coat dry.
Step 2 if ONLY using Sharpie. Start coloring in your drawing. I find it easier to add detail after I color in the base. Then, color until you are finished with the shoe, let dry, and Skip to Step 4. The Sharpie version is easier since there's no paint to dry, but it only works on white shoes.
Step 3. Now that the base coat is dry you can start adding detail with a fine point brush. For small amounts of colored detail I used Sharpies to make it easier, however I don't recommend using them to much since the acrylic paint doesn't play very nice with Sharpies. Only use the Sharpie in small amounts. After each layer let the paint dry so that the paint doesn't mix.
Step 4. Now that you are all finished, let your painting/drawing FULLY dry for 24 hours. Then take them outside and spray the whole shoe with Scotchgard. The more Scotchgard the better. I'd even do a few coats.
Step 5. Once your shoes are fully dry after spraying them with Scotchgard you can go out and rock them! Oh, and showcase them on Buzznet :)
What are you going to put on your custom shoes?

One of Tim Burton's earliest films is one that most people don't know about. Aside from being one of his earliest films, this short is also his first stop motion film. The short is called 'Vincent', named after one of Burton's idols Vincent Price, who can also be seen as the scientist in 'Edward Scissorhands', and follows a young boy split between his world and his dark imagination. The film seems eerily close to what must have been Burton's experience as a child.
Have you seen 'Vincent' before?
What was your favorite line from the film?
Going to the beach is something I don't often do, but this summer I actually made it a point to go at least once. Although it's late in the summer, I had an amazing day with friends while chillin' in the sand. We also made what I think is a pretty impressive sand castle thanks to a a handy little tool (aka a Starbucks cup).
Oh and that "Box of Water", I got that in Malibu and although it wasn't the best water I've ever had, it defiantly was the most original.
How do you think the sand castle turned out?
Have you made one yet this summer?
Tiffany Giardina is back with a new raw video of her recording a Jessie J cover song. Tiffany, who now goes by GI@, sings an amazing version of Jessie J's song "Domino", making it all her own. Recently GI@ has been working on new music with producer Brian Kennedy, who has produced music for Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson, and Cheryl Cole.
What do you think of GI@'s version of 'Domino'?
Lisa Kudrow stars in Showtime's Web Therapy and let me just say that this is one of the funniest shows on Showtime. The plot of the show is that Lisa Kudrow, a terrible therapist, wants to change the world of therapy by eliminating "boring" 50 minute sessions with a 3 minute web session. The result of which makes a hilarious comedy!
Quote for the screenshot below: "Nothing you've said in your fifty-minute sessions has ever even been slightly interesting... until this!"
Watch this clip and see for yourself what these 3 minute sessions are all about... And this is what the show looks like: a computer screen!
Watch Web Therapy on Showtime, Tuesdays at 11pm ET/PT. The show aired on July 19th and is five episodes in. Unfortunately, it's not gathering a huge following and we can ot let this show get canceled, like other genius shows... aka Arrested Development.
Do you watch 'Web Therapy'?
Who are your favorite clients that Lisa Kudrow has on the show?
Audiences fell in love with him as the 40-Year-Old Virgin years ago, but we really got to know (and love!) him as Michael Scott from The Office. Golden Globe-winning actor Steve Carell has won our hearts and made us laugh throughout the years in his series of hilarious (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, The Office) as well as moving (hello Little Miss Sunshine) roles.
In honor of Steve’s birthday today, we throw a celebratory GIF PARTY!!!
Who is your favorite Steve Carell character?
What is your favorite Steve Carell one-liner?
So last week I had an impromptu photoshoot with my good friend, and amazing photographer John Ellis. Right now he is doing more retouching work (currently just finished China Vogue) but he wants to get back into photography so we had a last minute, super random shoot. We started shooting at 2am and seriously it didn't feel like it took forever, but we didn't end up getting done until 4am. Crazy right! Anyway, these were both taken in the parking garage, proving you can shoot anywhere, any time.
You can see more of Ellis' work on his site Jellis Photography.
What do you guys think of the photos?
Which one is your favorite?
Karl Lagerfeld is never seen without his sunglasses! The iconic Chanel fashion designer was recently seen without his glasses, an extremely rare sight. Lagerfeld is known for always having something covering his face, whether it's a fan or a pair of sunglasses. But not today!
What do you think about the way Karl Lagerfeld looks without sunglasses? Should he keep them on, or mix it up without them?

I just discovered this (new for me) band called The Pack AD, and I am obsessed with their song "Sirens" from thier new album Unpersons. I'm not exactly sure how to describe the music except for that it's amazing. I'd say it's a combination of rock, and electric with just the right amount of slow and steady tones that make you just want to put it on repeat.
The Pack AD consists of two girls from Vancouver, Canada, with the drummer Maya Miller and guitarist/vocalist Becky Black. I love this style of music and I really thing you guys will to. You can find them on Myspace or on thier website ThePackAfterDeath.com. You can download "Sirens" for free on RCRDLBL.
